What is Parish Social Ministry?
Parish Social Ministry first and foremost is about fulfilling the Church's mission of Love, Charity and Justice. Parish Social Ministry continues to be shaped by the teachings of the Catholic Church. It shares in the mission of Jesus Christ by building real community among those who serve and those who are served. Parish Social Ministry allows the parishioners at Curé to create an authentic Christian community.

Ministries
Bereavement Group - A program that provides a confidential and caring environment to work through grief issues. For more information contact Rosemary Pertot 516- 546-3660.

Blood Drive Committee - For more information contact 516-623-9588.

Budget Counseling Services - A program that brings professional money managers to individuals offering advice and assistance with managing their financial households. For more information contact Nancy Brown at 516-623-1400, Ext. 102.

Committee for Advocacy of the Disabled - For more information contact Mary U1rich and Dr. James McBrien at 623-1400, Ext. 102.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (Homebound) - Parishioners 18 years or older who bring the Eucharist to the sick and homebound (Diocesan training required). For more information contact Eileen McKenna at 516-623-1400, Ext. 102.

Food Pantry - A program that allows those in need to come in for groceries and food, donated by parishioners. For more information contact Lisa Hudson at 516-623-1400, Ext. 108.

Hospitality - Welcomes new parishioners at their homes, at Mass, and sets up refreshments at various parish functions. For more information contact Lisa Hudson at 516-623-1400, Ext. 108.

Mom's Group - A program that brings mothers together for weekly meetings (September through June) along with their preschoolers; support group for moms, playgroup for tots. For more information contact Marianne Hansen at 516-378-3275.

Peace and Justice - Members organize and or educate the community regarding Catholic Social Teaching. For more information contact Lisa Hudson at 516-623-1400, Ext. 108.

Respect Life - Promotes, supports and raises awareness for a greater respect for the sanctity ofall human life. For more information contact Robert Delmonico at 516-379-2216.

Social Security Benefits - For more information contact Leslie Monsen at 516-623-1400, Ext. 102.

Thrift Shop - A fun store filled with wonderful treasures for the home, as well as a great selection of clothes for adults and children. Open from 10:00am - 4:00pm, Monday through Friday.

Transportation - Volunteers available to transport parishioners to and from Church and assist in other transportation needs. For more information contact Lisa Hudson at 623-1400 Ext. 108.

 

Seasonal Programs of Parish Social Ministry
Thanksgiving / Christmas Food Baskets - This is an opportunity for parishioners to share some of their abundance with those in need. Starting the beginning of November, parishioners are asked to sponsor a family for the holiday. Each family then goes and purchases a turkey and all the trimmings, plus desert for another family and then drops it off at the Parish Social Ministry Office three days before Thanksgiving and Christmas. They are then picked up by the family receiving the package. Contact Parish Social Ministry for more information.

Christmas Giving Tree - This is a special program that helps families and children during this special time of giving. During the Christmas season there is a brightly lit Christmas tree inside the front door of the church. The tree has tags which indicate a name and a gift. The tags are taken by those who wish to participate in the Giving Tree project. The gifts are then brought to the church along with the appropriate tag and placed under the tree. Brightly wrapped gifts are distributed to families in need before Christmas. Contact Parish Social Ministry for more information.

Lenten Soup Supper - This event provides our parish family with a midweek centering through a community meal, time for reflection, music, and prayer. Simplifying our lives with humble soup suppers shared with friends is a much needed adjustment in our often overdone, overfilled, overflowing lives of abundance.
